Are you ready for a summer filled with adventures, friends, and God? How about silly songfests, s’mores, and swimming? I know I am. In fact, I have been ready for camp to start again since October.
But even if you can’t always cook a s’more over a roaring fire or participate in an all-camp during the school year, God’s truths that we learn about at camp last all year round.
In my residence hall there is a huge chalkboard right in the entryway when you first walk in. This happens to be right outside my apartment, so I see it every day. At the beginning of the year, my staff and I chose a verse to put on this chalkboard. We chose Isaiah 40:8 which says, “The grass withers and the flowers fall, but the word of our God endures forever.”
Nothing on earth will last forever. The grass and the flowers die every winter, our possessions break, and friends come and go. But there is one thing we can count on to last forever; the word of the Lord. This doesn’t mean your Bible will never wear out or it can never be destroyed. Instead this means that the promises in it will always be true. From God’s promise to never leave us to his promise that he will always forgive us if we ask; His promises are never going to change and that is what I remember every time I see that chalkboard.
I want to invite you to come and “Suit Up” as we spend this summer exploring what it means to put on the armor of God. Don’t worry, there will be s’mores and campfires too!
Hope to see you all this summer!
